Welcome to Kindergarten! My name is Melissa VanAsdlen and I will be your child's teacher this year!
Some exciting news from my summer, is that on July 8th, I recently got married!!! Formally, I taught at MES as Ms. Reyes and will now need to get use to my new name! :)
Let me tell you a little more about myself… I received my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from Winona State University in December of 2013. I am very familiar with the Minooka School District as I completed my student teaching requirement here, followed by two long-term substitute positions in our elementary schools. Currently at Minooka Elementary School, this will be my third year teaching Kindergarten and I couldn’t be any more excited. Teaching has always been an extraordinary passion of mine and I am beyond thrilled to share it with you and your child this school year.
While in college, I had an amazing opportunity to play collegiate softball for Winona State University. When I have free time, I enjoy being outdoors--whether it’s going on camping trips or relaxing by my pool reading a book. In lieu of the many T.V shows and my husband's job of renovating homes, we love DIY projects for our new home. However, my true hobby is school. I love finding new, innovated ideas for my classroom and creating exciting learning opportunities for my students. I am also a big Chicago sports fan and love representing my favorite teams. GO Bears, Blackhawks & White Sox! :)
During my time with your child, creating a safe, fun-loving, and collaborative learning environment is my top priority. It is my mission to instill a love of learning in all my students. The Minooka Elementary team and I have worked very hard in creating the best instruction possible for your child to succeed. My goal is to teach every student the best I can so each unique child can develop enthusiasm for school and a passion for reading, writing and math.
I am looking forward to getting to know your child, teach your child, and most importantly work with YOU to help your child grow into young independent members of our society! :)
